How many tiles do I need per square foot?
It depends on your tile size and joint width — this calculator works it out from your tile dimensions and area rather than a fixed per-square-foot figure, since a 300x300mm tile and a 600x600mm tile need very different counts for the same area.
Should I use tile adhesive or cement-sand mortar for laying tiles?
Tile adhesive is thinner, faster and standard for most modern floor/wall tiling, especially large-format tiles. A cement-sand mortar bed is thicker and mainly used to also level an uneven substrate. Choosing the wrong one for large tiles risks poor bonding.
How much extra should I buy for cutting and breakage?
8% is a reasonable default for a straightforward layout. Diagonal layouts, small or irregular rooms, and large-format tiles all increase cutting waste — raise the wastage percentage accordingly.
